MGC awards beautification grants

Club gives $2,000 for community access gardens

On April 11, the Mahtomedi Garden Club approved a total of $2,000 in Garden-Related Community Beautification Grant awards.

The worthy recipients include:  

  • 1. Mahtomedi Service Partnership—High school entrance landscaping project. Approved $600 for “blue and gold"  perennials to  complete project; 

  • 2. Nature Trail Committee—OH Anderson Elementary School.  Approved $500 for perennial plantings and watering equipment;

  • 3. OH Anderson Garden Club—A school-based children’s garden club. Approved $400 for perennials, and student tools. 

  • 4. South Warner Neighborhood Bevins Lane public access garden. Approved $500 for black dirt, evergreens, dogwoods and shrubs.  

Background: MGC approved a plan to offer up to $2,000 for calendar year 2006 to be used for Garden-Related Community 

Beautification Grants. According to our materials, eligible projects would need to meet the following criteria:

  • The project site should be in public access area.

  • All primary plantings must be done with zone hardy perennials, trees and/or shrubs.

  • There must be a plan for ongoing care of the project site.

 Four applications were received by the April 1 deadline.
